Hi all, whoever might be interested in some inspiration: here are some pictures of my self-made low-budget studio in the cellar. It's 12m2, the acoustic was worse than everything I had heard before(low celing, fluttering echoes). With a budget of about 400 euro (530$), some free time, blebs and aching fingers I finally got a room, which really allows to record and monitor music without annyoing reflections. Its so easy to build absorbers, and, hell, its lots of fun. Here are some pictures. If you have any questions, don't hesitate ... Cheers, M
Hey man thats pretty nice! We both have the same microphone (mxl 990). How do you like it? Can you get pretty good mixes with it? I've been wanting to make a little vocal both for a while and this inspires me to do so. cool beans.
excellent work. it looks a tad rough but i can tell the sound would be a huge improvement. cool homemade diffusors, too! out of interest, did you do before/after room measurement recordings? how long did it take to make the bass traps?
Man, those timber defusers look good, do they work well? Thanks for sharing your project with us, it must be a huge improvement for your recording & mixes.

Make sure you do some vocal recordings in that booth and check for comb filtering issues. You'll hear it right away if it's a problem. From the pics, the booth looks small and in that situation, dead is the only way. Otherwise it's a comb filtering nightmare. Good luck with your space. That is one tough nut to crack in that room! Looks pretty cool!, I wish that I had a "purpose area" for my music, but a bedroom will have to do for now. I would be interested in seeing more of the vocal booth, how it closes, where in your area it is at. etc.... Thanks for sharing!
