Hi I would suggest that when recording to 001 via AI-3 analogue inputs that you make the AI-3 the clock master in order to avoid digital nasties. And when going from 001 to AI-3 make 001 the clock master. I am interested in an AI-3 myself, but need to be able to change sample rate and bit rate, can you select the sample and bit rate on the AI-3, or does it only output digital at 20 bit 48khz? Thanks Bill.
Billrog, To the best of my knowledge it only does 48khz @ 24 bit digital. I assume that because the converters are 24 bit, so is the lightpipe. If I discover otherwise I will be returning the unit. It seems that if you need different sample rates you'll be looking for a different box. Hope this helps geo
I emailed Alesis two weeks, then one week ago to get information on it's 24 bit capacity. I still have not received any word. Just want to know if it's true 24 bit and not 20 bit in any part of the signal routing. Also is there a latency issue when using the Digi001 converters with the AI-3 converters similtaniously, recording 16 tracks. Can anyone help? Nick
The AI3 locks to whatever is feeding it. Leave your system on internal sync, and hook the ins and the outs up to the 001. It works at 44.1 or 48KHz. I've done it. If you are having problems, power cycle the unit once you open your session and let it re-lock. This seemed to cure the problems I was having. -Evan <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">quote:<HR>Originally posted by profesrgeo: Billrog, To the best of my knowledge it only does 48khz @ 24 bit digital. I just had a look at the A13 manual on the Alesis website and it states in the specs and introduction that it is 20 bit. I guess this makes sense as the ADAT itself is still 'only' 20 bit. This is strange though, as in the product info it says 24 bit. When I open a new session in digi 001 it only gives me options for 16 bit and 24 bit, so what do A13 users do here? Use 24 bit I guess. If I am missing something, please tell me as I need more analogue I/O for my system. It looks like the Presonus digimax might be the way for me, as it has mic level inputs variable sample rate, limiters on each channel, ADAT output etc, but oh dear, the price. Regards Bill.
The first gen's AI3's are 20 bit The Second Gen's say 20 bit and are 24Bit I think on the second gen somewhere on the back it says 24bit but they got a huge discount on the front pannels and can't afford the V2 24bit stickers ...
Ah-ha, I see. I too would like more info please. How do they work with 20 bit ADAT then? Or will it lock onto the bit rate and sample rate of what it's used with, as evandaum says. Regards Bill.
