5.1 ogg audio stream in .ogm question

The audio doesn't get downmixed, so you would need to get it to play on a speaker configuration with fewer channels, i.e. 5.1 to 2.1. If you have a 5.1 speaker configuration, the Vorbis channels may not be mapped correctly, this filter should be able to fix that as well (though I am not entirely certain about that).

I am pretty sure the media player classic's custom channel mapper can handle this, I have made some vorbis 5.1 encodes, only problem is that i have to turn the vorbis decoding precision to 16-bit, or it will result cracking sounds, and I have to update my sound card(audigy)driver to the newest to avoid a total system crash..... hope that can help you...

I think I am a bit confused by the talk about 5.1 Vorbis. I was under the impression that Xiph had not yet specified exactly how to do it. Would someone please answer these questions for me? 1. Is there an official way to encode 5.1 Vorbis? 2. Is the way it is done now a way that Xiph has specified it should be done? 3. Does 5.1 Vorbis encode to a single stream?

Well, looks like Xiph did define how to map channels for up to 6 channels The only question now is whether or not it is being done properly. I will just assume it is.
