Record button in the MIDI editor

Why don't we have a record button in the MIDI editor? Let's assume you have the MIDI editor on top of the transport -> now it would be really cool to have one in the MIDI editor.

+1 for this, it would make sense and do record direct to the midi editor.

+1 I agree, there should be a button. And if it's only to indicate that Reaper is actually recording, in case the MIDI editor covers the transport. In case somebody doesn't know yet, you can use the 'pass through key to main window' action to start recording from within the MIDI editor with a key command or a midi controller. Just search for the action and add your regular record key command (default CTRL+R) to it.

Thoughts: 1) normal behavior... record button in ME is identical to transport record button? 2) punch behavior... record button in ME uses MIDI item as punch in/punch out point? 3) midi record behavior: record button in ME does only MIDI recording to the specific item?
