Hi, I have a 3 hour long video capture (32 GB total) that I want to convert over to divx using Nandub. The entire capture consists of several 2 GB segments. I want to encode the entire capture to divx in one shot. When using the Shift-F8 command in Nandub to perform both passes together, is it possible for Nandub to write the resulting encoded file back to the drive in 2 GB segments as well? Two reasons for this: 1. I'm using a FAT32 file system so a single file cannot be over 4 GB in size. 2. An AVI cannot exceed 2 GB in size so this takes priority over #1. There is a 'Save segmented AVI' option under the File menu but this doesn't seem to apply when doing both passes together.
If you have captured the video with VirtualDub then all files should be automaticlly loaded into nandub when you open the first one. If they don't then use 'Append Segment' to force nandub to treat all input files as one large file. As for the output, nandub will use openDML AVI filestructures to overcome the 2GB limit so the only thing you have to worry about is the 4GB FAT filesize limit. And if you select a reasonable bitrate for your DivX that won't be a problem either. In fact for 3h movies 2GB shouldn't be a problem either unless you aim for 3CD rips. There is no reason to use 'Save segmented AVI' with nandub.
Thanks for the reply. As far as the openDML AVI filestructures that you mentioned, is this a standard feature of Nandub or is it dependent in any way on the OS, file system, etc. that you're using? I'm currently running Win98 SE, FAT32 file system with VfW drivers. I'm not using a drastic video bit rate (encodes are at 640x480 res and 1500 bit rate) so I hope I don't have to worry about the 4 GB file size limit. However, the resultant file from Nandub will only have the video compressed so the audio will still be in PCM format so that may potentially boost the file size up over the 4 GB.

Hi, Thanks once again. I did a test run and was in fact able to create a single AVI file larger than 2 GB that was playable as you mentioned. However, I noticed that whenever I click ahead on the progress bar to jump to a scene, I would often times receive an 'Invalid file format' error message. This didn't happen all the time, maybe just 75% of the time for the same AVI file. I am viewing the file using Windows Media Player v6.4 and my encodes have a keyframe of every 5 seconds. Any thoughts on this?

Hi, In response to hakko504's post, I used the 'Save WAV' feature you suggested to extract the PCM audio from the video capture. However, right clicking on this saved file and going to Properties>Details lists the file as invalid or corrupt. When playing back the original video capture, however, the sound as well as the video plays back fine. Is there a file size limit to this WAV file that may be causing this error message? The video capture was 3.5 hours in length and the sound was recorded in PCM 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo. As a result, the extracted WAV file is 2.2 GB in size. If I try to play this wav file in Windows Media Player 6.4, I get the error message 'The buffer is not big enough'. If I attempt to play it back using WinAmp, I get the error message 'This is not a waveform-audio file'. Are there settings in Nandub that have to be made first before I select 'Save WAV' that I may have overlooked? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
