I'm sure I've done something wrong here. Trying to set up an autopunch, thought I followed manual instructions, looked up entries on the forum -- can't figure out why the track starts recording right from the point I put the cursor as a lead up to the selected area for punching. Kind of a pain as then I have to go back and deselect the active take (which is just dead air as I was standing around waiting for the punch in to start). I suspect I haven't 'selected' the time properly -- but I dragged the wee arrows across the timeline like I was supposed to....any thoughts? Thanks as always to all the people contributing here -- lifesavers all!
The little arrows mark the loop points. If you check Options->"Loop points linked to time selection" you create both at the same place. If that's unchecked, they (red) are independent from a time selection (green). Click and drag in the empty space below the time ruler then to create a time selection.

Sounds to me like you just don't have it set to punch in. If you right-click the record button, you want "Auto-punch time selection", otherwise it's going to record like normal.
