How about this simple-ish (if kludgy?) solution: allow any parameter to be optionally assigned to the fader instead of to the usual knob. Then let you toggle back and forth (in case you need to move the 'actual' fader). This would be flexible, simple to implement (easy for me to say!), and wwould save space over having to have the knobs showing etc.

so about reacontrol midi fx and it's transpose function... either as a param knob and\or as an envelope... how do you know what you are transposing to in terms of semitones? I see values and percentages, but that seems kind of useless for transposing...?...

You don't need ReaControlMIDI at all. Just the link mode. It works here - sends CC7/CC10 to the VSTi to change vol/pan.
