I nearly lost my marbles when I realized that the faders don't do midi. ReaControl comes along and I'm able to automate midi pan and volume. Whew...I almost had thoughts of going back to Sonar :-) I've read rumblings of this...why not have the main vol/pan/etc. faders of any track that's sending MIDI, switch to MIDI functions, rather than audio? Essentially, ReaControl, or some modified form of it, would be controlled by what were previously the track audio controls. Is this do-able? Any downsides?
Downside: Reaper has not tracks for Audio or MIDI, Stereo or Mono. You can have an item with 1 MIDI take and 1 audio take, for example. How will reaper know what's been played? or what's in the track?

You can currently place MIDI volume and pan knobs on the TCP this way: move the reacontrolmidi volume fader, press the "param" button, and select "show in track controls". It might be nice to also have the option "assign to track volume fader", etc, but we don't currently have this.
Looking at this post has brought to my attention that ReaControlMIDI has no way (that I can see) to control multiple midi channels at the same time, without opening multiple instances of ReaControlMIDI (one for each MIDI channel). Maybe what we need is a ReaControlMIDI16 version

I also agree with the idea of a ReaControlMIDI16 even if it would not be used by many people. I have actually made a work around that I use quite often and might not have been seen by many people. The direct link to these JS and VST FX is:- Paul
i like having independent VST volume cc7 AND the track volume fader separate as option in reamidicontrol would be best, that way i wouldn't have to use it

FWIW I frequently have audio and midi on the same track - for vocoding for one example - its really nice to record midi and then audio in the same place in FIPM too...

I would think whats wanted is not controlling midi volume (cc7) but scaling velocities. Scaling velocities is quite useful as it can change the tonal response etc. But even changing midi volume would have its uses: in a multi-timbral; setup for instance where a folder of indiviual midi tracks feeds a multipart vsti which is mixed internally and has only a stereo output. In this scenario this is the only way to control the relative levels of the individual midi tracks short of opening the vsti.
whoa whoa whoa gotta speak out sternly against the scaling of velocities via volume slider wholly different beasts - there's a JS for velocity control, this is what should be used to control velocity scaling, NOT volume slider. plenty of vsts/vst presets either don't respond to velocity or respond to velocity in ways DIFFERENT from volume velocity/volume in the vst/midi world is a favorite talking point of mine maybe a rightclick on the track slider with the option to - instead of control volume - send midi cc (or multiple ccs? with hi/low settings and maybe even curve/taper settings?)
