Pitch and tempo, the foundation of all music. Imo Reapers tempo abilities are pretty much there but when will it's pitch functionality see some love? How about a project key box so that we can change the pitch of an entire project? We can make global tempo changes, but how about global pitch changes? How about some pitch markers to vary the pitch throughout a project?
No it doesn't. Reason being the enormous latency it has built into it. Recording with it in the monitoring chain is impossible. The functionality needs to be built into the host, not a plugin. Not to mention that it is very clumsy. A project key box next to the BPM box or something like that is what i'm talking about. And also don't forget about pitch markers. Tell me how reapitch can accomplish varying pitches in a project without automation?
Would changing the pitch actually shift the midi events too? I thought it would just pitch shift the sound outputted from the vsti not the actual midi events themselves?

no, if you pitch-shift up a MIDI block using shift-9/shift-0 i think it transposes the raw MIDI data. there's no sound produced until it gets out of the VSTi, and the item pitch control doesn't go near that. anyway, you really wouldn't want to be pitching your kick up/down anyway, unless you're going for weird varispeed effects (which are already implemented using the master rate slider). EDIT: plus, you can't go arbitrarily pitching up the output of each track, because routing will mess with that (you'd get things pitched twice etc). it's either per source item (shift-9/0), or the entire session output (project rate slider, already automatable, varispeed recording support went in for v3.00 i think).
Well there you just gave another example of some more pitch shifting functionality missing in reaper. Why does it have to move the raw midi data? I say pitch the output sound of the vsti. That makes more sense. Or at least be able to make an exception to pitching the drums when pitch shifting the project. Again for clarity the pitch shifting functionality missing in reaper is a global project key box(key of C,D,etc.), and pitch shifting markers to add pitch changes throughout a project. Those are some very basic things that major daws have.
Nevermind. You guys are missing the point. All I know is that sonar and acid the two previous daws I used handled this shit flawlessly and there was no guessing game. Reaper really needs to figure its shit out if it want's to become a serious daw. Not user friendly at all and all the context menus is just confusing. There is too many ways to do one thing that it's ridiculous.
If Reaper had full pitch shifting ability, the price would probably be at least $100 more based on the price of Melodyne VST plug-in or Rephrase VST. However, neither one of these two plugins can do what you want live.
it would be fantastic if reapitch worked on active recording inputs without so much latency because i have several old analogue synths that are out of tune, can usually get within 30-40 cents of a note but never quite on it, reapitch corrects this perfectly but i cant use it to monitor live recording input, but i think thats more to do with PDC on the inpts, anyway just one reason why i would like to monitor with reapitch. back to the main subject reaper has pretty good pitch control as long as you use the keyboard shortcuts, too tedious to bring up the F2 menu and say yes to working on all items selected.
