I went down to my local Mac store today and read all about the new G4's and the 'majical' dual processors. Meanwhile I was told that 'older' G4's are going for $200-$500 less.(if they got in stock) Now my delema(sp) continues. Wait to see if they will even be worth it. Or should I snag one of these old was while they last!

I have the same problem. Just back from holliday, wanting to buy a G4 400... but what should I do now? Spend more $ on a dual-processor G4 450? OS X will be there by the end of 2000(or beginning 2001): The system will run on proc 1 & programms on the 2nd proc. So no matter what digidesign will do... there are benefits.. But what will I do? Buy a 400 now, or wait a month (till the multiproc's will be sold over here in Holland) and buy a 450MP ?? Any thoughts on this are welcome! GRTX GIE
I just decided to buy what already works, and save myself enough $$ to buy a nicer monitor, or a mic, or a preamp..... I just got sick of waiting and I know the G4 single processor works (mostly) with 001/pro-tools. good luck!
I ordered a G4 4000 today... because 1)prices dropped 2)the dual-p takes 1month waiting time over here 3) for the pice difference I can buy nice outboard gear (TC & Lexicon reverbs, so I don't have to use Reverb-plugs which take most of the CPU).
G4 4000? Cool! ;-) BTW, which reverb unit are you looking at? I'd be interested to know at which price point a hardware unit takes over from software plug-ins. Cheers, Mike
Don't bother at this stage with the DUAL PROCESSORS guys. I'm starting a brand new job in two weeks and took out a small loan to buy a MAC. (We have Pro-tools where i currently work although they do not have it at my new job) So I bought the machine & the Digi001. I've let my place of purchase set everything up for me. (they seem like pretty cluey guys) IT DOESN'T WORK !!!! The Pro-tools application will not even launch. My system is as follows: G4 450 (DP), 256mb ram, 30gb HD. ETC.ETC I'm pretty much now stuck until DIGI can help. regards, Matt Bauer
