FWIW, I have an 01v96 that does the same thing. It never seems to actually lose communication, but it does warn of it from time to time. After a few seconds all seems fine again. I don't know about Studio Manager problem since the 01v96 was released without OSX support!

Hi, it's just that you need to set up your 02r96 to communicate with DAW on USB1-3 ( then open OMS Studio setup, set up first 3 USB Yamaha ports for HUI emulation and one port, eg. 8 for Studio Manager comms. Then you need to enable "Active in background" in PT and OMS. The trick here is to get 02r96 to use separate USB ports for OMS and StudioManager . Active in background stops the warning popups in PT. You need to enable DAW Control in the MachineControl page of your 02r96, then the console's transport buttons are active regardless of Layer status. I use 2 ADAT bridges to lightpipe 32 channels into the 02. Last night I did two mixes (no plugs except for rev and dly) one summed in PT and one summed in 02r96. PT mix has less depth, clarity, the 02 mix is more open, and transparent, has stronger dynamics , more separation and width, However, the 02 mix is more sterile sounding, more like SoundCanvas/GM (Yamaha JapAuto at 12000revs) sound vs. Kurzweil K2500 (good ole Ameican Harley) sound. I guess I just need to insert a Pultec into 02's mixbuss. And add a third and fourth ADAT bridge. I wonder how this compares to HD ? kokos

Thanks for the tips koko. But is this true even if you aren't running both studio manager and PT at the same time? I have yet to try both at once because I didn't think it was even possible. Or perhaps that is the problem, that I NEED to be running both at once. I will do some experimenting when I get a chance.

Right on, snoopy... indeed, it's cool having Studio Manager open underneath PT on a second monitor instead of PT's mix page. Been doing sessions with both apps running no problem. Ahem... i encountered a strange bug when trying to record 8 audio tracks and 4 midi tracks simultaneously into PT with Yamaha USB driver in the Extension set and with OMS Setup with Yamaha 02 R setup. ProTools kept crashing on "Save Session" or "Save Session As" My OMS Setup also contained the MOTU MTP setup for 4 synths. Anyway, it's a recommended practice to have Studio Manager open at all times, a Yamaha demo person told me . I'd love to give you specific console settings but i'm writing this from home late at night,. Good luck, koko

I have an O2R V2, but never set it up with PT. What kind of perameters in PT can be controlled via the O2R aside from fader moves? If thats the case, is it even worth it for just fader moves? I think I'd rather have a Pro control that is able to access all PT peramiters....but if the O2R will do the trick, I'll keep it and save the cash.
