POD vs POD FARM ??

Podfarm has no limits on the number of instances of POD effect chains! Total recall! (2 good reasons?)

Also, Pod Farm allows 2 simultaneous amp/fx chains, where the PodXt only has one.

If you have a PodXT, you can run the Pod Farm plugin. Free. You'll only have access to whatever model packs are activated on your XT (which is loads even if you haven't bought any extras) and the XT will need to be connected by USB so it can act as a dongle. I found they sound identical (which IMO means 'great') but Pod Farm is a royal pain is the arse for editing and its shockingly wonky preset management. Very useful though... To sum up : get an XT, it means you'll have both.

Thanks for the replies. I did download the free POD Farm for the xt BUT I don't believe all my xt amps will now open up as plugs--Just the ones in the $49 Farm would with the xt acting as the dongle. Kind of a limited supply of amps/fx that way. Not sure if I'm correct & am away from the studio for a couple of weeks. I'll probably get the Platinum and do the POD dongle thing with that as it'd be a lot cheaper than going with the ilok. I guess the several instances aspect has sold me. Thanks.

I picked up the gearbox gold when it was at 150 and I got the free upgrade to podfarm platinum. I really love the plugin.

Well if it's true I'll have all my xt sounds then I'm set! I use mostly Matchless & Dumble & some twin. So really if you downloaded the free POD into your xt you're really getting Platinum for free huh? Whew!!
