Valve stem seals

Hi, Does anyone know if the valve stem seals can be changed in situ. or if it's a head off job? Many thanks

Cheers guys I'm thinking ally head will need skimming then? new head bolts?

Hello I am not a mechanic or engineer, but I have service manual by Volvo and it includes a section on engine overhaul (1995). It gives a proceedure how to replace valve stem oil seals with motor in situ. I have tried to attach a pdf but it was too big so I chopped it, I really hope it helps, if not then I apologise in advance. Matt

Lots of people don't have access to compressed air. What I have seen used twith great success is thin rope. Stick a load down a spark plug hole, leaving an end out of course, turn the engine up to T.D.C.( power stroke ) and there you go. Combustion chamber full of rope, valve goes nowhere. Pookie

I'd say no it isn't, if you do try it make sure you use the special tool to remove / replace the to cam cover or you will end up distorting it and have to replace the head.
