Newbie problem with playing midi

REAPER does include ReaSynth ... sure it's pretty basic but at the very least you can use it to play around, experiment, learn, etc. And happy REAPERing! :)

It's kind of a "hole" in Reaper. But really not a problem. There are TONS of great freeware VST Instruments and Soundfonts available. It takes some time, but you end up with instruments you like and can use rather than a bunch of junk. There some wonderful FREE orchestra soundfonts available. Google is your friend! I also use a lot of MIDI hardware, and recently added a Roland Integra-7 to the rack. But VSTi are nice to fill in and for use on a laptop outside of the studio. You might buy a copy of Computer Music magazine. It's loaded with some decent VST and VSTi on a DVD with documentation and tutorials. Welcome to Reaper and the forum!
