Western Digital and Maxtor make 200GB drives and IBM, a 180GB. All are 7200 RPM. Does anyone have insight or recommendations for my decision? Thanks, Scott
I don't know if this is true, but from what I heard IBM doesn't really make as much of the drives as they used to so I am staying away from them. I have about 8 Maxtor drives of different sizes and I haven't had any problems with any of them so I would have to recommend Maxtor.

i just bought two Hitatchi 180 gig drives for $306. they are 7200 rpm and are working really well. they were the best value when i did a search, the 200 gig drives cost more per gb.
(Apologies to Vaphoron) The only suggestion I can offer is to aviod all the Maxtor drives. They tend to freeze up. This has happened to 3 other friends of mine at least 2 times each. (I'm on my 4th and last Maxtor drive.) There is a chance that Vaphoron is using newer Maxtor drives. My experience is with drives 6 months or older. For what it's worth, I've been using the 'heck' out of the digi Firewire drive and it's been great. No problems with any Western Digital drives either. raw
I too have had many problems with the maxtor drives...they tend to be a bit unreliable. Hard drives are so cheap these days that spending the extra few for a western digital would help a lot.
