Wow, people still use r4r? Although you seemed to have defined the mp3 vbr 128 compression profile (going as per your 2nd screenshot), looking at the audio tracks list in your 1st screenshot, it is evident that the compression profile wasn't selected for your English and Japanese tracks (else you'd have seen a --> 1mp3 vbr 128 to the right of each of those tracks). Right click on each of those AC3 tracks and choose your compression profile. Right now they must be set to no transcoding and that's why r4r is just outputting the AC3 tracks as is.
Thank you very much for the reply. "Wow, people still use r4r?" um, what's the alternative? I'm going off an h.264 guide on the doom9 tutorials. EDIT How do I secect anything other than no transcoding? When I right click, this is the only option it gives me
I don't know Robot4Rip but in screen 2 there are some problems: 1) Audio encoder setting 1:mp3 vbr 128 2) Parameters: ... -azid( -L -3db -c normal ) 3) Prefer: 6 channel traks If you prefer (or only have) 6 channel traks the azid parameters must be changed to: -azid( -c normal -s stereo -L -3db ) or -azid( -c normal -s dplii ) to allow a downmix from 6 to 2 channel (max mp3 supported). If input channels are only 2 the -s parameter is ignored then is safe put the desired downmix always: -s stereo (plain stereo) -s stereo -L -3db (plain stereo with LFE mixed) -s dplii (Dolby ProLogic mix, surround recoverable)
Well basically I wanted to learn how to encode a x264 movie using maybe the mkv container. Knowing nothing about how to do so, I browsed the forums like this: Video Encoding -> MPEG-4 AVC -> x264 win32 daily builds: rev 736 -> Encoding - "How to"s: -> Doom9's x264 guide Doom9's x264 guide Which leads me how to set up GKnot Which leads me how to setup Robot4Rip Which leads me to configuring it *************************************************** ok, Finally gave up on robot4rip, I ended up using the besweet GUI. I tried the wizard first. I dropped my ac3's in, checked mp3, 128 bitrate + FRC none, Hit GO but couldn't get it to run, a empty BeSweet.log pops up but nothing else happened. So next I tried the BeSweetGUI option. I left all the defaults and choose the mp3 for avi profile. Hit AC3 to MP3 and ended up with a mp3 file that was about 110mb in size. Does 110mb sound about right? *************************************************** I guess it's time to go back to the Doom9's x264 guide and start back up where I left off now that I got my mp3 audio. I always enjoyed using auto GKnot for xvid. Do they have something like that for x264? Basically, what I'm looking for is a movie that has both English and Japanese sound track (I've been learning Japanese for the last 3 years) and a selectable subtitle.
Must you absolutely use x264 VfW? If not, look into any of those newer MPEG-4 GUIs from . Gordian Knot isn't the best tool for x264+mkv. If you must use x264 VfW, search in the forum for DeathTheSheep's x264 guides.

unskinnyboy, first I must say, your help has been tremendous. "Must you absolutely use x264 VfW?" I'd have to say no to that one. I just want to make good looking anime with dual spoken languages and selectable subtitles that look and sound great at reasonable disk cost. (1:30 hours at 700mb is reasonable to me) Wow, there are so many on that list, I know the rules say you can't tell me which one is best but can you please recommend 2 or 3 of them?
GtMustangJim, I haven't tested every single one from that list myself, but from what I've seen, MeGui, Staxrip, RipBot264 & AutoMKV are good. In that sub-forum, you'd find that each of these tools have their own thread wherein you can ask questions if you are stuck somewhere, whilst using that tool.
